Murder in the House of Omari is a twisting historical mystery set in Osaka (Semba district) across the early 20th century. A wealthy merchant family, the Omaris, are haunted by disappearances, strange deaths and a dark secret that stretches decades. Beginning in 1906 with the heir’s mysterious disappearance, through wartime in 1943 when the family is in decline and murders start to occur, the story combines the Japanese “honkaku” tradition of detective fiction with Golden-Age mystery tropes.
